Hi there,

Having a Simple http Auth. incorporated into AU+ is a great feature. Now what is really desired is to be able to remember the password -as it's provided by other browsers and HTTP agents-.

User just needs to provide the username and password once, save it. Otherwise anytime an AU is scheduled they need to provide it again and again. Not a good idea!

Any way to do above?

Regards,
Steven

Steven,

I am not too aware of how many people use the HTTP Basic Authentication feature, possibly a reason that such a feature has not been requested before, but I do agree that a 'remember credentials' button can be beneficial. Keep in mind that we do have to program this feature -- the username/password pop-up that you see when surfing in IE/FireFox is part of those applications, and not something that we can leverage. I say this as an explanation for why such a feature does not already exist.

My guess is that programming such a feature should not be too difficult. There is a minor issue of storing the passwords securely, but I am sure that can be sorted out. I am not sure of your status (existing customer or just testing), but if this is a feature critical to your needs then let me know and potentially we can get you a beta to test with.

Cheers,
Simon.

Hi Simon,

Many thanks for your reply.

We actually obtained the corporate version of the AutoUpdate+ last month. We are an Australian company from Sydney. I suppose a country man :) I am sure you would find us in your new customer list from last month. We are in process of getting our customers under subscription agreement. So AU+ authenticating to a Web server is a must. That was why I purchased AU+. So remembering user credentials will make lots of users really happy. I am keen to receive a beta version as soon as possible.

Kind regards,
Steven

Does the username/password also pop-up for proxies and get remembered? Or only for HTTP auth?

Sorry, I just realized it's in the help, and testing shows that you can get it to remember the credentials as well:
